-Maybe we all brush our teeth for our mouth cleaning. But how many of us floss? We think of the answer as at most half of us. Using dental floss is as necessary as brushing teeth. It should be done every morning and every evening after meals, before brushing teeth. Unfortunately, most patients do not prefer to do it because of the difficulty and long duration of the application.
– By using dental floss, we prevent the caries on the facing surfaces of the teeth at a very high rate. Because the faces of the teeth facing each other make very tight contacts. Because of this, the interfaces cannot be reached with a brush. Also, fluoride, which has a caries-preventing function in toothpastes, cannot make sufficient contact with the teeth. For this reason, the interfaces of the teeth become decay a lot.
-How do we use dental floss? Many patients use dental floss incorrectly. Flossing does not mean inserting and pulling dental floss into the interface. Because that means nothing. The main purpose of using dental floss is to scrape the food residues on the side surfaces of the teeth with the floss. That is, after the floss is inserted into the interface, it rests against a tooth and is slid upwards. Thus, the food residues in that tooth are removed. The same operation is done by inserting into the same interface but leaning against the other tooth. Thus, the faces of the two teeth in the interface facing each other are also cleaned.
-Using dental floss doesn’t just prevent cavities. It also prevents gum infections that may occur in the interface. Because food residues that can get stuck in the interface increase the microbial load. As a result, gum infections may develop. The use of dental floss eliminates this situation.
