-The third molars are popularly known as wisdom teeth. Because these teeth usually come out around the age of 20.
– Since the wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt, they usually start to appear in the mouth after the other teeth take their place in the jaw. For this reason, these teeth often cannot find a place in the mouth and remain as impacted teeth. Impacted wisdom teeth, especially in the lower jaw, are usually extracted with a minor surgery under local anesthesia. This situation is not much different from an average tooth extraction for an oral, dental and maxillofacial surgeon.
In some operations, swelling may occur on the patient’s face as the bone is also intervened during the impacted tooth extraction. Patients can pass the post-procedure process more comfortably by following the prescription given after the procedure.
After the extraction, stitches are usually placed and it is recommended that these stitches be removed by the maxillofacial surgeon 10 days later.
